Thinking like a historian
Through Their Eyes: In the past women were expected to be courteous, respectful, and not disruptive. Through Belle Starr's eyes she realized that this expectation of women was incorrect. Men believed that women were weak and not able to hold the responsibility of being the head of a house hold, or making something of themselves. Belle Starr was a strong believer in the the perspective that women can, and have the ability, of being what ever they put their minds to. Women have been strong individual since the beginning of time, being put through many abusive circumstances, being ordered to do many things, and having to act as if they were a slave.
Change and Continuity: Belle Starr changed the way women looked at themselves for centuries. Though Belle Starr was an outlaw, a woman that didn't portray womanly aspects, she paved the way for powerful women. The change she made in the past is continuing on in the future growing and prospering for each step of women till today. Comparing to other women during her time period, Belle Starr was an abrupt change in character. She believed in the power of women, and that they will one day run the world. Over time one sees a pattern that developed which included the prospering of women in not only the government yet the work fields, house holds, and etc.
